Sometimes
Sometimes Daddy baited my hook
as the sapphire lake cradled our boat.
Mostly I fished with salmon eggs.
They wiggled less than worms, and they
were hot pink, my FAVORITE color.
Sometimes a frost breeze, or the
scent of pine trees pulls me
into those summer vacations and
a world where Daddy walks, talks,
and casts a lure into the deep blue depths.
Sometimes I watch the news, mesmerized
by the flames engulfing my childhood.
South Fork whisked us from "what's for
dinner" and "go to your room", weaving
a magical net of memories through our
hearts.
